On The Town at Riverside Theatre

Three sailors-Ozzie, Chip, and Gabey-arrive in New York City for 24 hours of shore leave, looking for fun and romance. Chip hopes to tour the landmarks from his father's 1934 guidebook, Ozzie wants to meet as many women as possible, and Gabey longs for one special girl. When Gabey falls for a subway poster of "Miss Turnstiles" Ivy Smith, the sailors split up across the city to find her. Their search leads to comic encounters: Ozzie's flirtation with anthropologist Claire de Loone at the Museum of Natural History, Chip's whirlwind affair with brash cab driver Hildy, and Gabey's romantic but ill-fated meeting with Ivy, who hides her job as a Coney Island dancer. Meanwhile, a growing mob of angry New Yorkers-police, professors, and bosses-chase the trio through the city.

The night continues in a series of madcap adventures at nightclubs and cabarets, as the friends rally around Gabey when Ivy seemingly abandons him. Ultimately, Gabey finds Ivy performing at Coney Island just before their shore leave ends. Chaos erupts, everyone is arrested, and the others are left pleading with the long-suffering Judge Pitkin, Claire's fiance. As dawn breaks, Pitkin forgives them all, and the sailors say goodbye to their sweethearts before heading back to sea. As they depart, a new group of sailors arrives, ready to begin another day of love, laughter, and possibility in New York City.
