Theater for the New City and director Michael Luggio bring Steven Dietz’ This Random World to TNC for a 3 night limited engagement September 21st-23rd. Mining the comedy of missed connections, This Random World asks the serious question of how often we travel parallel paths through the world without noticing. An ailing woman, Scottie is planning one final trip to cross off her bucket list. But Scottie is insistent: her adult children are not to know. In fact, they know very little about their mother or even themselves. Throughout this play, we follow a dynamic ensemble of interconnected individuals navigating their own complex lives, weaving a story of hope, failure, inspiration, and longing. This Random World, penned by accomplished playwright Steven Dietz (Fiction, Becky’s New Car, Private Eyes), received its world premiere at the 2016 Humana Festival for New American Plays at Actors’ Theater of Louisville. This Random World is a charming, funny, and intimate meditation on the power of chance and how we might be closer to each other than we’ll ever know. THIS RANDOM WORLD By Steven Dietz Directed by Michael Luggio September 21, 22, 23rd 2023. 8:00pm.
