[NY, NY] — [Sept 18, 2026] — A new American play, The Keys, is launching a fundraising campaign to support its next phase of development and production. Centered on intergenerational family dynamics, aging, memory, masculinity, and the passing of responsibility, The Keys offers an intimate portrait of a family over the course of one life-changing night.

ABOUT THE PLAY

The Keys follows two brothers and their aging father over the course of a single night. As memory falters and long-buried truths surface, the family must confront what has been left unsaid — and what can no longer be ignored. With stark honesty and quiet humor, the play asks what we owe each other as parents and children, and what it means to carry the weight of family history forward.

WHY THIS STORY, WHY NOW

At a time when many families are grappling with questions of care, identity, and legacy, The Keys speaks to audiences across generations. This new American play explores:

Intergenerational family dynamics

Aging, memory, and masculinity

The passing of responsibility from one generation to the next

Funds raised will support continued development, rehearsal, design, and the eventual staging of The Keys for Off-Broadway audiences.

THE CREATIVE TEAM

Written by: Sean Welsh

Sean Welsh was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, moving to New York in 1998. He was co-publisher and co-editor of the literary quarterly The Good Luck And All The Best from 2003 to 2006. In 2010, a collection of his short fiction, One From The Ice, was published by Eclectic Press and received a nomination for the Pen/Robert W. Bingham Fellowship Award. In 2019, he received an E-lit bronze medal for his debut novel, Daylight Maybe, officially released through Eclectic Press in 2022. The Keys is his first play; he is currently at work on his second novel.

Directed by: Kevin Moccia

Kevin Moccia, a graduate of The National Shakespeare Conservatory, appeared on Broadway in the 1986 Tony Award-winning play I’m Not Rappaport and served as artistic director of The Bach D’or Theater Company. He is the author of six full-length plays—Winter’s Harvest, King Me!, No Gas, Shrove Tuesday, Anatole’s Leg, and The Page—as well as the one-man shows The Last Vineyard: 2154 and The Unicorn Salesman. The Unicorn Salesman was developed at venues including the Nuyorican Poets Cafe and premiered at The Vortex Theater in Chelsea, later running as a guest artist piece at HERE. His novels include The Beagle and the Hare and Occupant #3 (the first two books of the Waving Plains Trilogy) and When The Furniture Comes, a New York City construction fable. His film work includes roles in Lion’s Den, Snitches, PVT Chat, Crypto, Bad Hombres, and Muzzle. Kevin brings a long-standing commitment to new work and the careful shaping of a writer’s words through the actor’s living instrument.

Featuring: Christopher Greiner (Frank)

Christopher is proud to be working alongside this team of artists to bring The Keys one step closer to the stage it deserves. Christopher is a film, television, and stage actor whose recent credits include Nightbirds and Spiral. His additional screen work includes True Crime with Aphrodite Jones, A Crime to Remember, The Haunting of Ed Lyons, Jimbo, Three Women, and Pheromones. His theater credits include Ozone Park at the Hudson Theater in NYC. Christopher was born and raised in New York and comes from an Italian and German family background. In addition to his work on screen and stage, he has toured as a guitarist in hard-rock and metal bands.

Featuring: Kevin Ford (Kenny)

Kevin Ford is an NYC-based actor excited to make his debut at Polaris North. Previous theater credits include Our Town (LSTFI). His recent film work includes If That Mockingbird Don’t Sing and Sweet Like Kandie, among others. Later this month, he can also be seen in Hang Up Your Cleats at the American Theatre of Actors. Kevin is a graduate of NYU and studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute.

Executive Producer: Kyle McIlhone

Kyle McIlhone, a proud graduate of the Neighborhood Playhouse, is thrilled to be part of the team bringing The Keys to life on stage. Originally from a small town near Montreal, QC, Canada, Kyle co-founded two independent theater companies and is a member of Polaris North. Recent stage appearances include The Airport and the Strange Package by Sean King, directed by William Roudebush, at the Gene Frankel Theater.

ABOUT THE KEYS ONGOING FUNDRAISER CAMPAIGN

The fundraising campaign for The Keys will support [workshop readings, rehearsal spaces, design elements, artist stipends, and initial production costs]. Community members, theater lovers, and supporters of new work are invited to contribute and to help bring this intimate, intergenerational story to the stage.

This second fundraiser manifests as a workshop presentation of The Keys and is an instrumental part of the continued development of the play, and we’re excited to invite an audience into that process.

You are cordially invited October 1–4, 2026 Polaris North 245 West 29th Street 4th Floor
