Who deserves a statue? Statue-worthy women are the subjects of six plays in monologue form in StatueFest on Friday, May 21 at 7 pm (EDT), with performances by leading actors.The statue-worthy women who will be portrayed are theater luminary Stella Adler (by D. Lee Miller, performed by Denise Lute); photography pioneer Alice Austen (by Fengar Gael, performed by Myla Pitt), and writer and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston (by Cheryl L. Davis, performed by Nan-Lynn Nelson).Also shown are civil rights activist Yuri Kochiyama (by Christine Toy Johnson, performed by Dawn Saito); Labor Secretary and New Deal architect Frances Perkins (by Deborah Savadge, performed by Carole Monferdini), and women who died in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire (by Barbara Kahn, performed by Janis Astor del Valle, Aprella Godfrey Barule and Maja Wampuszyc).The director for the evening is JoAnna Rhinehart. The virtual performances are followed by a talk back with the artists. This is the third in a quartet of online performances in response to the ongoing public dialogue about monuments.
