Hey, New York! Swing into summer with New Victory Dance, the annual mini-festival of NYC dance curated specifically for kids! MCed by New Victory Teaching Artists, each program showcases a diverse lineup of acclaimed NYC-based dance companies—three per program, nine in total—and features a choreographer Talk-Back with a chance to dance from your seat. Set to the rhythm of pounding drums, Weaving is defined by its strength and beauty, exploring the multifaceted possibilities of movement with a dramatic sense of urgency.
Gibney Company
Vukani (Excerpt)
Genre: Contemporary
Xhosa for "to awaken," Vukani explores communion with elders and a search for guidance. Choreographed by Mthuthuzeli November, the piece is informed by traditional South African dance, street dance, ballet and contemporary styles.
