Justice for Geetha is a timely and powerful play in a time of anti-DEI by Sunita Deshpande, premiering as part of the 2025 Chain Summer Festival in New York City.

Opening on July 11 and running through July 19 at Chain Theatre, this production explores the urgent themes of justice, equity, and the silencing of marginalized voices through the real-life, unresolved tragedy of Indian-American chemist Geetha Angara.

With compelling performances by Sunita Deshpande, Julie Amangoua, and Margaret Burrus, the play confronts workplace injustice and challenges audiences to reckon with what freedom truly means in our time.

Cast

Sunita Deshpande
Reporter
Playwright & Director Sunita Deshpande is a New York–based actor and writer whose work explores silence, identity, and the tension between belonging and invisibility. Her new play, Justice for Geetha, examines the real-life drowning of Geetha Angara—an immigrant scientist whose success was met with resentment—and draws a chilling parallel to the suffocating structures of corporate America. It marks her third original play at the Chain Theatre Festival @chaintheatrenyc , following Princess of Tea and An Indian Wedding on a Starry Night in South Georgia Somewhere in Early November. Her award-winning short A Sari for Pallavi highlights her passion for telling untold stories with heart, depth, and bite.

A fluent French speaker, she brings a multicultural perspective to her work. When she's not on stage, she's often found in front of her mirror singing into a hairbrush and dancing like nobody's watching, to her favorite R&B tracks. Julie is deeply grateful to her incredible support system -whose love and encouragement continue to fuel her artistic journey!
