Human Error 404 at Ripley Grier Studios

NTG Theater will host industry presentations of the new comedy Human Error 404 on October 9 at 2:00 PM at Ripley Grier Studios (305 W 38th Street) in New York City.

In this dark techno-comedy, two computer scientists, controlling father Chris and neurotic daughter Abby, work to digitize a human brain, assisted by two rather opinionated AI bots. On a tight deadline, the scientists’ lab is thrown into a tailspin when Abby’s chaotic sister Kate, a social media influencer, unexpectedly arrives. As the lines between human and machine begin to blur, technical troubles emerge, hidden ambitions erupt, and family secrets are exposed.

At the heart of the play is a real-life family collaboration: Human Error 404 is written by daughter-and-father team Sierra Hitchcock and Charlie Hitchcock, who bring their own intergenerational perspective to a comedy about technology, ambition, and family. The duo has also written the book for the musical Speakerheart, and each writer has additional plays in development.

This workshop presentation of Human Error 404 is directed by Jen Wineman and is developed in collaboration with dramaturg Lexy Leuszler.

Director Jen Wineman says, ”Human Error 404 is a fascinating new play to work on because it takes the ever-present threat of AI and weaves it into the darkly comic story of a family on the brink of falling apart. As a father/daughter writing team, Charlie and Sierra Hitchcock bring a unique perspective to the dynamic family relationships on display. The way they are able to parallel the destruction of this family unit in a tiny computer lab in New Jersey with the destruction of the outside world is truly mind blowing. Anyone who encounters this play is in for a thrilling and chilling ride!”

The cast features Anthony Merchant (Target Margin Theater: One Night; Epic Theatre Ensemble: Enemies; Passage Theatre Co.: Topdog/Underdog), Gabriella Joy (La Jolla Playhouse: The Ballad of Johnny and June; National Tour: The Color Purple; Timber Lake Playhouse: The Mermaids, A New Musical),Tait Ruppert (Broadway: Candida; Summit Playhouse: My Fair Lady; SOPAC: Bridges of Madison County), Alex Trow (The Mint: London Wall; The Tank: Don’t Do This To Us; Yale Rep: Owners), and Samantha Williams (Pirates!, Caroline or Change, and Dear Evan Hansen).

Chris Flores will serve as Production Stage Manager, Michelle Tuite will serve as Assistant Stage Manager and Evan Bernardin Productions serves as General Manager.
