Hats Off To Liza–A Musical Celebration is a show honoring and commemorating the lifetime achievements of world-renowned superstar Liza Minnelli and her contributions to the stage and screen. When it comes to “show biz,” no one has ever had more pizzazz than the great Liza Minnelli. Being the daughter of two Hollywood legends–Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli–it didn’t take long for her to become a legend herself as well as a true American Icon. Liza is one of the very few performers to have achieved EGOT status (1 Emmy, 1 Oscar, 1 Grammy, and 4 Tonys to be exact)! Despite her numerous accolades, her unparalleled success as an entertainer, and her significant influence on pop culture, Liza Minnelli has been repeatedly overlooked as a recipient of the nation’s highest honor in the arts–The Kennedy Center Honors. Through the recreation of some of the most memorable songs and dance numbers from Liza’s illustrious career, Hats Off to Liza will give her the honor and recognition she deserves, succeeding where the Kennedy Center has failed. Hats Off to Liza originally premiered in 2002 at Danny’s Skylight Room. The show has been met with much acclaim, and a more recent production of the show was performed in 2016 at the Cutting Room in NYC and also sold-out at the Metropolitan Room. This revised production stars Marina Triplett, an NYC performer who last appeared as Judy Garland in LJC Productions’ concert Legendary Ladies. Hats Off to Liza also includes performances from guest star Katie Homer, a dancer who starred in the 2016 production and choreographed the current production, and features newcomer Juliana Johnson, a dancer making her NYC stage debut. The show is produced and directed by Lawrence J. Capici. Songs in the show include songs from the movie Cabaret and a special New York Medley from Liza’s record-breaking Carnegie Hall engagement, along with many other show-stopping staple songs from her repertoire. The show premeirs at the Laurie Beechman Theatre at 7:00 pm on Saturday, March 9th, just in time to celebrate Liza’s upcoming 78th birthday on March 12th. *More performances will be added and announced
Laurie Beechman is at 407 W 42nd Street, New York, NY.
