Gin & Milk Returns to NYC Stage
Downtown Urban Arts Festival Presents Antony Raymond’s Acclaimed Two-Hander — One Night Only at La MaMa
NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Downtown Urban Arts Festival (DUAF) presents Gin & Milk, a new production of the critically acclaimed two-hander from writer-director Antony Raymond, for one night only. The production plays Thursday, June 11 at 7:30 PM at La MaMa, 66 East 4th Street, New York, NY 10003. DUAF has been hailed as “one of the world’s best festivals for new works.” Tickets are available at duafnyc.com.
Starring Christopher Heard and Julia Keesler, Gin & Milk is a bruised lullaby of a play — two strangers, one night, and the ghosts that won’t stay quiet. Between half-empty glasses and half-told truths, a man and a woman try to outrun loneliness, only to find themselves tangled in memory, loss, and the strange intimacy of regret. Quiet, funny, and heartbreakingly honest, it’s a late-night conversation you can’t shake off.
Critics have consistently praised Raymond’s work. Theatre Is Easy called a previous staging of Gin & Milk “riveting and highly enjoyable,” noting that “Director and writer Antony Raymond creates rich, compelling characters showing authentic needs for connection.” Broadway Radio has said that “Antony Raymond has his finger on the pulse of what’s going on today.”
Now in its 23rd season, DUAF presents groundbreaking new performance from storytellers across America’s multicultural landscape and beyond. The festival has produced 326 plays by 232 playwrights, and this year’s season features new works alongside some of the best emerging voices from across the country. Presented at La MaMa — one of New York’s most storied and beloved Off-Off-Broadway homes — this is an unmissable evening of intimate, emotionally charged theater.
Antony Raymond (Playwright/Director) has built a wide-ranging body of New York theater work over the past decade. A classically trained actor turned playwright and director, his produced works include Elsinore County (Theatre Row & Cherry Lane Studio Theater), Pretty Babies (13th Street Rep), The Autobiography Of A Guy Who Knew Me, Part One (LaMama), and many others. His current short film Sleeping With Gus recently premiered at Katra Film Series and is making a successful festival run.
