In this highly anticipated production, Harlem Stage-commissioned WaterWorks artist Jason 'Timbuktu' Diakite performs the U.S. premiere of his autobiographical theater project, "A Drop of Midnight." Adapted from Diakite's memoir of the same name, it follows the chart-topping Swedish hip-hop artist born to interracial American parents in Sweden, growing up in the frail cultural and racial divide. Jason akes us on a journey through his ancestors' origins as slaves in the antebellum South, his parents' struggles as an interracial couple, and his connection to hip-hop that helped him build a strong Black identity in Sweden. Family, belonging, and migration are explored through music, text, and visuals to weave a compelling story that journeys across continents and musical genres. Join us in the intimate setting of the Gatehouse for this presentation that is sure to move audiences. Director and dramaturg is Jonathan McCrory.
