Closing out its 91st season, the St. Bart's Players, Manhattan's longest-running community theater group, will present Godspell, opening Thursday, November 8th at St. Bartholomew's Church (325 Park Avenue.) With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by John Michael Tebelak, Godspell is adapted from the Gospel of Matthew and features a parade of beloved songs, led by the international hit, "Day by Day." The Players will be returning to perform in the cathedral at St. Bart's - the perfect venue to capture Godspell's true essence.

Michael Blatt (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The Sound of Music) directs and Henco Espag (The Lesbian and Gay Big Apple Corps) music directs the Player's production.

When asked about his vision for the show, Blatt shares: "Technology has isolated us from each other. People feel free to say anything-if they are hidden behind it. This global online community has driven us apart and divided us. Godspell is, at its heart, about the creation of a community. For our production we will be acknowledging the times in which we are living now, while still honoring the intent of the original production. My hope is to bring the audience back to a time where people believed we needed-above all- to find ways to get along with each other and celebrate the things that make us similar."

The cast features Tom Schrank as Jesus, Bosa Mora as John the Baptist/Judas, Rachel Acevedo, Sarah Butler, Erika Ji, Alex Mogil, Natalie Pernick, Michael Trainer, Ben Watts and Elisabeth Zimmerman.

Merrill Vaughn, Michael D. DeShields and Katherine Weall are the Producers of the show, and Rachel K Moll is the Stage Manager.

Godspell will run for 10 performances from November 8th through November 17th. For tickets (priced at $50, $30, $27, and $20) and additional information, please visit www.stbartsplayers.org or call 212-378- 0248. For group rates of 10 or more, please call our box office, 212-378-0248.
