Firehouse Theatre to Present New Andy Warhol-Centric Musical POP!, 7/11-8/10

Firehouse Theatre begins its summer with a bang as we travel back to the counterculture of the '60s for POP!, a new musical with book and lyrics by Maggie-Kate Coleman and music by Anna K. Jacobs. Directed by Jase Smith (Rocky Horror Show, RENT, Reefer Madness) and sponsored by the Binger Center of Yale Repertory Theatre and The Lewis and Butler Foundation, POP! runs July 11 - August 10, 2013 with an Opening Night performance and reception on Friday, July 12 at 8pm.

Now, Catherine Gray has written a creative version for The Barter Players, the children's company of Barter Theatre, while still keeping true to its tradition. The shared heritage of jazz music and flamenco dance will be explored at a special, one-night performance of Furia Flamenca's new work "Soul Encounters: Flamenco Meets Jazz." Cadence Theatre Company, in partnership with Virginia Repertory Theatre, closes its 2012/13 Season with the emotionally packed Broadway rock-musical Next to Normal. Performances will begin at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, Marjorie Arenstein Stage on Thursday, April 25, 2013 and run for four weeks only through Saturday, May 18, 2013. Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Next to Normal examines the powerful story of Diana, a suburban housewife suffering with bipolar disorder, and the effects of that illness on her family. The Acting Company presents a national tour of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men and Shakespeare's As You Like It, running now through April 2013. Performances began in Santa Fe in October before the show left on a cross country tour to 44 cities in 30 states. Ian Belknap, Artistic Director of The Acting Company has direcTed Steinbeck's Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning tale, which is one of the most widely read stories in America.
