OCEAN STATE THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES

EQUITY AND NON-EQUITY ADULT AUDITIONS FOR

2013 INAUGURAL SEASON

Ocean State Theatre Company announces Open Equity and Non-Equity Adult Auditions for its 2013 Inaugural Season at its new state-of-the-art theater located at 1245 Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick, RI on Friday, December 21 and Friday, December 28, 2012. Performers must be available for all rehearsal and performance dates. Local talent is strongly encouraged to audition. All roles are open for the following productions:

Fools

Day and evening rehearsals/performances January 8 – February 10

*Note: All roles must be very strong comic actors. No singing required.

Also looking to cast stand-bys and understudies. Please see website for casting breakdown.

Rent

Day and evening rehearsals/performances February 5 – March 17

*Note: All roles require very strong pop/rock singers/actors who can convincingly play in their 20’s.

Also looking to cast stand-bys and understudies. Please see website for casting breakdown.

Race

Day and evening rehearsals/performances March 12 – April 14

*Note: All roles must be very strong actors who aren’t afraid of controversial material.

The King and I

Day and evening rehearsals/performances April 9 – May 19

*Note: All roles must be very strong singers, actors and dancers. Ensemble must be very strong singers and dancers who can execute technical choreography. Several smaller roles will be cast from the ensemble. Also looking to cast stand-bys and understudies. Please see website for casting breakdown. NO CHILDREN WILL BE AUDITIONED AT THIS TIME.

The schedule for both Friday, December 21 and Friday, December 28 will be as follows:

9 am-1 pm and 2-4 pm Singing/Acting Auditions; 4 pm Dancing Auditions; (1–2 pm lunch)

Auditions will be held at the new Ocean State Theatre located at 1245 Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick,RI. Those auditioning should enter through the main lobby doors and bring their headshot or a recent photo and resume (if available) stapled together (back to back).

Singing/acting auditions: If auditioning for plays only, no singing is required; please prepare two brief contrasting monologues. If auditioning for musicals, please prepare two brief songs (one up-tempo and one ballad). If auditioning for plays and musicals, prepare a brief monologue and a brief song. Note that there may be time to perform one selection only. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided, but will not transpose. No a cappella, tape recorders or CD players accepted. Some may be asked to stay for the dance call. Bring appropriate dancewear including character shoes (if you have them).

Dancing auditions: Please be warmed up and ready to dance when the call begins. Wear appropriate dancewear and have ballet and character shoes. Some may be asked to stay and sing after all have danced. Please prepare 16 bars of an up-tempo theatre song. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided, but will not transpose. No a cappella, tape recorders or CD players accepted.

No appointments necessary. Members of Actors’ Equity may call to schedule a five-minute singing/actingappointment, please call
(401) 921-1777, x111, beginning December 17. Equity Members without appointments will be seen throughout each audition day, as time permits. No appointments will be given to non-union actors. No appointment needed for dance audition. Doors open at 8:15 am. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held on Saturday, December 22 and/or Saturday, December 29.

PLEASE NOTE: These auditions are for adults only (18 years and older). Children’s auditions for The King and I will be held at a later date.

The theatre is required to hire a minimum of three members of Actors’ Equity Association for each show.

In both chorus musicals additional minimum of two chorus contracts is required.

All ethnic minorities are strongly encouraged to attend this audition.
