The Wellington Community Choir present Land, Sea and Friendly Creatures, featuring contrasting styles of music in what promises to be a highly entertaining programme of songs and stories with a natural world and animal theme. In the first part the choir will perform songs from Oceania, including Pacific Island dance songs and some old time NZ folk songs; in part two the choir, together with Wellington’s much-loved pianist Diedre Irons, presents a sequence of animal songs from The Bestiary collection by Michael Flanders and Donald Swann. These wonderfully humorous (and gloriously human) songs, written in the 1950s, have been newly arranged by the choir’s musical director Julian Raphael.
Saturday afternoon’s concert has a family focus, with special guests Wellington Community Children’s Choir, who will offer an assortment of animal songs with characteristic animation and exuberance.
