STC Annouces Engagement Of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND 3/13-3/29

Street Theatre Company, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to professional, affordable and accessible theatrical performances in Middle Tennessee, announced today that it will present a limited engagement of Once on this Island at Bailey Middle School Auditorium in historic East Nashville, Friday, March 13th through Sunday, March 29th, 2009. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays, March 15 & 29 at 3 pm, and Sunday, March 22 at 7pm. Tickets are $14/adults and $10 for students & seniors.

The Nashville Shakespeare Festival's ongoing program, Shakespeare Allowed!, will feature The Comedy of Errors for the month of March. The program Shakespeare Allowed! brings participants together each month to read aloud one of Shakespeare's works. The goal is to read all his works beginning with the first play he wrote and ending with his last. The program began last October, and will continue once a month over the next three years.
La Boheme Comes To Nashville Opera 4/17, 4/18

Nashville Opera will present the final production of the 2008-09 season, Giacomo Puccini's La boheme. The performances will be staged at TPAC's Andrew Jackson Hall at 505 Deaderick Street on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18. Curtain for both shows is 8:00 pm with the free Opera Insights discussion occurring at 7:00 pm inside of the theatre. Nashville Opera's production of La boheme is directed by John Hoomes and features the Nashville Opera Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Christopher Larkin.

Frist Center announces their Calendar of Events March 1-May 17, 2009 Free Jazz on the Move Series Continues, March 15 and April 19 The Nashville Jazz Workshop and the Frist Center for the Visual Arts present the popular series, Jazz on the Move, that feature a combination lecture and performance, presented by some of Nashville's top jazz artists and educators. The programs take place on a series of Sunday at 3 p.m. in the auditorium. All performances are free and open to the public. This series is made possible by an Arts Builds Communities (ABC) grant from the Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission in cooperation with the Tennessee Arts Commission.

William Shakespeare's MACBETH 8pm will open on Friday, March 6. Plays Saturday, March 7; Friday, March 13, 2pm on Saturday, March 14 An anatomy of the relationship between ambition and corruption, MACBETH is one of Shakespeare's most bloody and fear-filled tragedies. Often regarded as archetypal, the play tells of the dangers of the lust for power and the betrayal of friends. Based loosely on the historical account of King Macbeth of Scotland many superstitions are centered on the belief the play is 'cursed', referring to it instead as 'The Scottish play'.
