Before AMERICAN IDOL, Lee DeWyze worked as a paint store clerk in Mt. Prospect, IL. Kris Allen was a college student from Conway, AR. David Cook tended bar in Blue Springs, MO. Chris Daughtry was a service advisor at a car dealership in Greensboro, NC. Carrie Underwood lived on a farm in Checotah, OK. Jennifer Hudson was a cruise ship performer from Chicago, IL. Kelly Clarkson was a waitress from Dallas, TX. One audition changed the rest of their lives.
Nashville Symphony Presents Mary Chapin Carpenter Concert, 7/16

The Nashville Symphony announced today that there are still a limited number of seats available to see Mary Chapin Carpenter in concert this coming Friday, July 16 at TPAC's Andrew Jackson Hall at 8:00 p.m. Carpenter, a five-time GRAMMY winning country star known for such hits as 'Down at the Twist and Shout' and 'He Thinks He'll Keep Her,' will be performing one night only without orchestra accompaniment. Only a handful of seats remain at prices ranging from $17.50 to $57.50.

School of Nashville Ballet will host an Open House Sunday, August 1, 2010, from 2-4 p.m. at the Martin Center for Dance, home of Nashville Ballet. The public is invited to come meet our faculty, register for classes and have a tour of the dance studio. Spell's Dancewear will be available to outfit dance students. Each student registering will receive a complimentary T-shirt.

Most recently the audience development intern at Tennessee Repertory Theatre, Arkansas-born Barry Honold's next theatrical adventure is as production dramaturg for Nashville Shakespeare Festival's upcoming production of Love's Labour's Lost, the company's 2010 Shakespeare-in-the-Park presentation. Directed by company artistic director Denice Hicks, the production stars Tom Angland, Jeff Boyet, Shannon Hoppe, Nettie Kraft, R. Alex Murray, Eric Pasto-Crosby, Ricardo Puerta, Joseph Robinson and Brenda Sparks.
Nashville Symphony Conductor Kelly Corcoran Extends Contract

Kelly Corcoran, the Nashville Symphony's Assistant Conductor, has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Symphony through the end of the Symphony's 2011/12 concert season. In addition, she will assume the new title of Associate Conductor.

Nashville Symphony Receives Violin for Instrument Petting Zoo Education Program

Among the $42 million in damages sustained at Nashville Symphony's Schermerhorn Symphony Center during May's historic flooding was a collection of 42 musical instruments used for the NSO's Instrument Petting Zoo, a Symphony Education & Community Engagement program that allows children to sample and learn about various musical instruments.

Wolfe's acclaimed The Colored Museum is now onstage at Nashville's Amun Ra Theatre, continuing the company's 2010 season hot off the heels of the production of Suzan-Lori Parks' Topdog/Underdog. Opening Thursday, June 17, The Colored Museum runs through July 4. Shows are Thursday through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15.

The skies are blue, the corn is 'high as an elephant's eye,' and the cowboys and their girls are dancing and singing now at Pull-tight in preparation for the opening of Rodgers and Hammerstein's perennial favorite, Oklahoma! This exuberant and tuneful production tells the familiar story of Laurey (Rachel Melius) and Curly (Zach Pless) against the background of Oklahoma territory at the turn of the century. Curly is vying for Laurey's affections with Jud (Cody Muller), the brooding farmhand, as his rival. A secondary romance between Ado Annie (Megan Roddick) and Will Parker (Peter Horecka) is also developing, while the Persian peddler, Ali Hakim (Ryan Garrett), plays Ado's other suitor. Laurey's Aunt Eller (Christen Sottolano) acts as matriarch to all.
