Talula Gallery Presents Fragments and Layers by Carrie Cox

By: Jan. 13, 2011

Talula Gallery presents "Fragments and Layers", monotypes and mixed media collage by Carrie Cox. The exhibition will be on view from February 1st through the 28th. A reception for the artist is scheduled for Saturday, February 5 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

"Fragments and Layers" is a compilation of Cox's recent work that explores "the abstract and the study of line, shape and color." In her work Carrie Cox combines different printmaking processes together to create monotypes and mixed media collage. Printing on thin sheets of Mulberry paper, she combines several printed layers together, often experimenting with sewn assemblage.

With "Fragments and Layers", Cox states "There is no hidden meaning or symbolism within my art. I wish for the viewer to find their own interpretation and expression in my work. To look at each piece and explore the movement of line, the suggestion of shape, and the mood of color."

Carrie Cox, holds an Associate of Science degree in graphic design from Daytona Beach College and is a graduate of Stetson University where she received her BA in Fine Arts. Carrie was raised in an artistic family where she was exposed to many crafts including woodworking, quilting and knitting, which influence her work today. She is a member of the Platetone Printshop, a community printmaking studio in Nashville.

Talula Gallery is located at 114B South 11th Street, East Nashville. For more information visit www.talulagallery.com.
