Join the Rosenstrasse Civil Courage Foundation for a special staged reading of Mela, a powerful one-character play inspired by the true story of Amelia “Mela” Roslan, a Polish woman who rescued Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto during the Holocaust.
Mela tells the story of an ordinary woman who took extraordinary risks. While her husband worked to secure food and resources, Mela protected three Jewish children alongside her own—standing against collaborators, the Gestapo, and the SS. Her courage held a fragile household together during some of the darkest years of the twentieth century.
The reading will be performed by Sarah Reid Vinyard, an award-winning director and theatre artist, recipient of the 2025 Tallahassee Broadway World Award for Best Director for a Holocaust-related production. The event is part of the Rosenstrasse Civil Courage Foundation’s mission to elevate stories of resistance, rescue, and moral courage—and to connect historical examples of civil courage to the responsibilities we face today.
The program will include:
• A brief welcome and introduction
• Remarks on the Rosenstrasse Civil Courage Foundation
• A one-hour staged reading of Mela
Admission is free
