HAIR - An Explosion Of Joy, Beauty, Life, Freedom, And Hippies
by Beau Higgins - June 08, 2011
HAIR first played on Broadway in the 60s and it was, without question, one of my very favorite musicals. I saw it three times. I recall that the then New York Times critic Clive Barnes was quoted as saying 'If you Have One Musical To See, Make it HAIR.' His quote was pretty close to that, anyway. I don't think I agreed with Mr. Barnes then, but HAIR is surely a joyous musical, full of memorable songs, and a 'tribe' of performers you simply want to be part of.

by Beau Higgins - June 07, 2011
Florida Stage, one of America's premiere professional theatre companies dedicated exclusively to the development and production of new American plays, announced the decision of its Board of Trustees to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in the United States Bankruptcy Court. This decision was based upon several critical financial challenges currently facing the organization, specifically a marked downturn in subscription sales for its 2011-12 Season, negligible ticket sales for the summer production of ELLA, and a lack of response to the company's intensive fundraising efforts, which has resulted in an accumulated debt of $1.5 Million and an exhaustion of funds to continue operations.

Returning to The Colony directly from concert engagements in Manhattan, London and around the world is swinging singer/pianist Tony DeSare, an elegant, young crowd-pleaser whose singing style ranges from dreamy pop standards to boogie-woogie and R&B. A steady headliner at the legendary Carlyle Hotel in New York City, Tony DeSare performs with infectious joy, wry playfulness, and robust musicality. His takes on classic standards and sophisticated original compositions have earned him a reputation as one of country's hottest young performers. His sound is romantic, swinging and sensual, but what sets Tony apart is his ability to write original material that sounds fresh and at the same time blends seamlessly with the Great American Songbook. Tony has the capability to glide from a standard by George Gershwin to a contemporary classic by Bob Dylan or Phil Collins to one of his inventive original songs with ease.
