GableStage at the Biltmore is proud to present the South Florida Premiere of In the Continuum, a play by Nikkole Salter and Danai Gurira, opening on October 13th and running through November 18th

The central characters in the play are two black women—a wife and mother in Zimbabwe and a 19-year-old in the Los Angeles inner city. They are both trying to move ahead in a world in which everything is changed and yet nothing has changed.

Two young playwrights developed the piece during their third year in NYU's Graduate Acting Program. They also performed both roles when In the Continuum had its world premiere in September 2005 at Primary Stages in New York City. It was so successful that it moved to the Perry Street Theatre in November of that year, where it was produced by Primary Stages. After an incredibly well-received run off-Broadway, the playwrights went on to tour many of the most important Regional Theatres in the country (Woolly Mammoth, Cincinnati Playhouse, Mark Taper Forum, Yale Rep, Philadelphia Theatre Company, Goodman Theatre). They also performed the play in Zimbabwe and South Africa, where it was greeted with accolades.

The GableStage production will be the first time the roles will be portrayed by other actresses. In what is best described as a tour de force for actors, the parts will be taken by two young South Florida talents, Kameshia Duncan and Lela Elam, both of whom performed in the acclaimed production of Intimate Apparel by Lynn Nottage in the '05-'06 Season at GableStage.  In the Continuum will provide them with the opportunity to create multiple characters.

The New York Times called the play,  "Moving, spirited and surprisingly funny!" – adding "It leaves behind a warm afterglow, of human struggles explored, illumined and embraced!"  Newsday found it "Thrilling, exhilarating and utterly disarming!"

The performance schedule is: Friday & Saturday at 8pm & Sunday at 2pm-- $42.50. Sunday at 7pm-- $37.50

GableStage is located in the eastern section of the Biltmore Hotel, 1200 Anastasia Avenue, Coral Gables. Valet parking is available. Free parking is available in the Biltmore parking area west of the hotel.
