Endgame and Act Without Words I by Samuel Beckett at Emery Community Arts Center

Samuel Beckett's lesser known play Endgame was first performed in London in 1957 along side a short one act called "Act Without Words I". Both of these plays will be performed this May at Emery Community Arts Center in Farmington. Directed by Gavin Pickering, who has recently directed Last Gas and Small Mouth Sounds at Emery, this show explores themes of grief, love, and the humor that exists in human suffering. Taking place in a post-apocolyptic wasteland, the characters include, Hamm, a blind man unable to move from his chair, Clov, a young man whom is indebted to him, and his parents, Nagg and Nell, who live in ash bins. This show celebrates the absurdist form of theatre defined by Samuel Beckett with quick and witty dialogue that makes the most dark and mundane of experiences a beatiful celebration of life.
