Jeremy McQueen Participates In Kentucky Center Artistic Residency

Jeremy McQueen, a professional dancer and choreographer currently on tour with Wicked, will be conducting several youth workshops in schools and community centers around Louisville as a part of his residency at The Kentucky Center this month.

McQueen will visit with young dance and music enthusiasts to share his experiences on stage and get Louisville youth excited about the performing arts. Several participants will even have an opportunity to see the production of Wicked free of charge, courtesy of The Kentucky Center's ArtsReach program. Here are a few of the events currently planned:

Thursday, May 13 9:15 - 10:00 a.m. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary
Monday, May 17 1 2:45 - 2:15 p.m. Youth Performing Arts School
Tuesday, May 18 4:00-6:00 p.m. Louisville Ballet School
Wednesday, May 19 9:15 - 10:45 a.m. Youth Performing Arts School
Friday, May 21 9:00-10:00 a.m. Western Middle School

McQueen, a San Diego native, is currently a featured dancer in the national tour of the Broadway smash hit, Wicked, and is a graduate of The Ailey School/Fordham University, B.F.A in Dance program. He began his training at the California Ballet School and the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, where he is the recipient of the Fred Astaire Award for Dancer of the Year (2004). McQueen has also trained as a scholarship recipient with the San Francisco Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and Alonzo King's LINES Ballet. He has performed works by Alvin Ailey, Nicolo Fonte, Alonzo King, Jose Limon, Christopher Huggins and Troy Powell, among others.

"I understand the importance of arts and education programs because I am a product of them," says McQueen. "If it were not for my early interaction with the arts through my school and community, I would not be where I am today."

McQueen's residency and workshops are presented by the Gheens Great Expectations initiative in support of The Kentucky Center's ArtsReach program and the Jefferson County Public School system.
