Mayuri Vasan, a vocalist with deep roots in Carnatic South Indian classical music, brings her mastery of this ancient tradition to Sierra Madre Playhouse, Sunday, October 19, 4:00 pm.
Vasan’s immersive performances, which are filled with emotive depth, precision and passion, beautifully highlight the rich and intricate melodies of the Carnatic tradition, one of the world’s most revered and demanding classical music forms. Beginning her training at six years of age, Vasan refined her considerable skills through advanced studies and has transported audiences in India and beyond with her stellar performances.
A graduate of the University of Miami, the Indian-American mezzo-soprano holds a Master of Music in Opera Performance is also versed in Western Classical music. She has appeared as a staff singer and soloist with the Long Beach Camerata Singers (LBCS) and the Catalyst Chamber Ensemble and also sings with Pacific Chorale and Tonality. Vasan’s credits include singing in Disney Epcot Center’s show Harmonious and Marvel’s tv show, Ms. Marvel.
