Victoria Lavan directed Theatre west’s last two big musical shows, Winter Wishes and So Many Stars. Now it’s her turn to take center stage and put her own magnificent voice on display.
Music is the memory keeper of our souls, the heartbeat of humanity. Singing an eclectic array of songs from Leonard Cohen to Stephen Sondheim, Obradors to the Eurythmics, and interweaving stories hilarious and heartbreaking, Victoria Lavan and her five-piece band, will Dance You to the End of Love.
The musicians include James Lent (keyboard), Peter Snell (guitar), Bill Von Ravensberg (bass), Jim Varley (drums), Mara Wells (harmonica).
Brooks Almy directs.
More like one elongated impromptu jam session than a typical musical, Musical Theatre West's new production of MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET doesn't involve a complex storyline, but instead focuses on imagining what it must have been like to be in the room where music history happened. The resulting concert-like jukebox musical is a rollicking good time.

For the most part, MTW's brand-new, admirably plucky 2024 production—now on stage through February 25—succeeds as an entertaining, visually cheerful show, filled with strong performances, a rousingly robust orchestra, and dynamic, zestfully tap-tastic dance numbers. Despite its lack of any real, serious stakes, the show itself is still a fun time.
MTW's pleasantly perky, traditionally-executed production comes across as a show that's very eager to please, armed with a keen, fine-tuned goal of making sure both fans and newbies to this beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein classic are left feeling uplifted and happy. The show continues through November 5 at the Carpenter Center in Long Beach.
