DEAD OF NIGHT Evening of One-Act Plays to Debut at Bare Bones Theater, 2/1-16

Glen Cove, N.Y. resident Frederick Stroppel, author of nine collections of full-length plays and one-acts, many of which have been performed in New York and internationally, has chosen Long Island's Bare Bones Theater Company for the world premiere of Dead of Night, an evening of two one-act plays of macabre humor and suspense. There will be eight performances, beginning on Friday, February 1, and continuing through February 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 15 and 16, 2013, at 57 Main Street in Northport, NY.

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport has announced its next special event in their ongoing Broadway Concert Series tonight, January 11, 2013 at 8 PM. Originally scheduled for November 2012 the concerts were moved to January due to Hurricane Sandy.

I always love when a random show pops up on the community theatre circuit. It breathes new life into a scene that may run the same show too many times. Some would probably consider BroadHollow Theatre Company's presentation of Willy Russell's Tony Award winning play Shirley Valentine a risk, but they pulled it off excellently.

Announcing the cast and creative team for the tense thriller, Wait Until Dark, where a cool-as-ice psychopath smooth talks his way into the home of an unsuspecting blind woman. She soon discovers she's harboring a dangerous prize and that he'll try anything to get it. Previews begin on Thursday, January 24 at 8:00 p.m.; with the official opening on Saturday, January 26 at 8:00 p.m. and running through March 10, 2013.

HarborFrost is coming to Sag Harbor Village on February 9! Come in from the cold as Bay Street Theatre welcomes all to keep cozy and warm from noon on. Whether it's after the plunge on the Long Wharf or before the big fireworks, Bay Street is the place you will want to be! In the lobby kids can warm up with hot chocolate while adults can enjoy a "cocoa-go-go", a delightful hot mixture of cocoa with a choice of a favorite liquor at the bar. After warming up kids can enjoy free cartoons on the big screen from 12-4pm and for those who want to just relax, cool music will be played in the lobby to chill out to for the rest of the afternoon. Return that evening for the MARDI GRAS BALL at 8 pm with the JOE LAURO's HOODOO LOUNGERS and GENE CASEY and the LONE SHARKS. Tickets $15 in advance; $25 at the door.

This has been a very exciting year for the Long Island theatre community. There was a lot of diversity from classic shows like The Importance Of Being Earnest at the Smithtown Performing Arts Center (SPAC) to more modern shows like Legally Blond at the BayWay Theatre. Some productions may have been stronger than others, but all of them had a lot of heart invested in each of them.

Bay Street Theatre is pleased to announce the January lineup of after school classes. Theater Arts Class & Showcase will be held on Wednesdays, beginning January 16, 2013 from 4:15-5:45 pm for 8-12 year olds; and 6:15-7:45 pm for teenagers. Sing The Song! Vocal Performance and Live Concert will be held on Thursdays, beginning January 17, 2013 from 4:15-5:45 pm for 8-12 year olds; and 6:15-7:45 pm for teenagers. The cost is $275 per person, per class. Both classes are taught by professional actor/singer Susan Galardi.

Whenever you see a production presented by the Gateway Theatre, you're in for a wonderful event. Their current musical, Irving Berlin's White Christmas, based on the Paramount Pictures film, is no exception. This David Ruttura directed production is even fortunate to have the original sets and choreography as the Broadway showing (more on that later).
