Technical Director - Emerald Coast Theatre Company

Position Overview:

Emerald Coast Theatre Company (ECTC) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Director to join our dynamic team. As the Technical Director, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing and executing all technical and build aspects of our productions, ensuring the highest standards of technical excellence and safety. You will collaborate closely with the artistic team, designers, and production staff to bring our artistic vision to life. This is a key leadership role within our organization, requiring strong technical expertise, leadership abilities, and a passion for the performing arts.



Responsibilities:



Technical Production Management:



Manage all technical aspects of ECTC productions, including construction, lighting, sound, specialty prop builds, rigging, and special effects.

Collaborate with the artistic team, designers, and production staff to create and execute the technical elements of each production.

Develop and maintain production schedules, budgets, and technical plans to ensure timely and efficient execution of all technical requirements.



Set Design and Construction:



Construct innovative and visually compelling sets that align with the artistic vision of each production.

Oversee and lead the construction, installation, and strike of all set pieces, ensuring they meet safety standards and are completed on schedule.



Lighting and Sound:



Act as Master Electrician by executing lighting plots by hanging and circuiting the lighting units according to the plot, assist with focus, and wire any practicals or scenic pieces that include lighting units.

Manage the setup, operation, and maintenance of lighting and sound equipment during rehearsals and performances.



Technical Staff Supervision:



As needed, recruit and train volunteers or overhires for additional technical staff, including carpenters, electricians, sound technicians, and other relevant positions.

Co-manage the production assistant.

Foster a positive and collaborative working environment, providing guidance and support to the technical team throughout the production process.



Safety and Compliance:



Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and best practices for theatrical productions, including proper use of equipment, rigging, and fire safety protocols.

Conduct regular safety inspections of the theater space and equipment, addressing any potential hazards or concerns.



Qualifications:



Bachelors or Masters of Fine Arts degree in Technical Theatre, Theatre Production, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).

Proven experience as a Technical Director in a professional theatre environment.

Extensive knowledge of all technical aspects of theatrical production, including set construction, lighting, sound, props, rigging, and special effects.

Proficiency in the use of industry-standard software and equipment related to technical theatre.

Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.

Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and production demands.



Salary Range: $52,000 - $60,000 plus company paid health insurance and other benefits.
