A Must See for all GAA fans!

The All Star Wars - the new GAA comedy which has been taking audiences by storm since it first premiered at Cork Opera House last April, will arrive at the Olympia Theatre - Dublin in February 2012 for one week only!

The smash hit hurling comedy co-written by writer/director Bryan Flynn and writer/actor Kevin McCormack parodies the world of club and county hurling and has already been a huge hit on tour in Cork, Clare and Waterford.

Many famous faces from the GAA world afforded standing ovations nightly for this very funny production which is based on Ireland’s obsession with the ancient game of hurling and no doubt tickets will be at a premium when it plays at the Olympia from 7th to 12th February 2012.

Soccer fans were gifted with ‘I Keano’ and rugby fans with ‘Alone it Stands’; both fantastic productions. But now comes the show all fans of the GAA have been waiting for; a production which honours and celebrates the game of hurling through a feast of comedy and music. All of the famous characters from the modern game (both on and off the field) are parodied in this two-hour comedy show.

The ALL STAR Wars tells the story of a 42 year old Junior B hurler ‘Hugh Cullen’, who, mistakingly believed to be a blood relation of Cuchulainn, is whisked off on a journey by a wise sage called Obi Wan Camogie to save the future of hurling from the might of the indomitable King Henry of the Shefflin Order. What follows is two hours of hilarious situation comedy during which we are introduced to numerous recognizable characters.

Musical arrangements have been produced by acclaimed producer David Hayes and the production also features audio visual sequences along with a twenty strong cast. When the producers decided to use some match commentary as a narrative devise during the show, the greatest broadcaster in the history of the GAA was approached. What followed was an exhilarating and inspiring day in the recording studio with legend Michael O Mhuircheartaigh. His commentary is a huge endorsement for the show; as witty as it is powerful. Other appearances are made in the production by Sunday Game pundit Tomas Mulcahy and RTE host Marty Morrissey.

This is Bryan Flynn’s third original musical, having previously written ‘Pentimenti (1998) and ‘Michael Collins’ (2007). The ALL STAR Wars is a departure in style for the Waterford-born composer. ‘Having worked on the Michael Collins drama for over 5 years I was looking to write something which was comic and more in the light entertainment style’ said Bryan at the recent launch of The ALL STAR Wars tour. ‘I approached writer Kevin McCormack and we set about the task - I have had the time of my life co-writing this show, and we were thrilled by the manner in which the audiences have gone wild for it - The show strikes a chord with people who know and love the GAA’, he continued.

The ALL STAR Wars will be the perfect tonic for audiences looking for an evening of top class comedy entertainment and will appeal to both fans of comedy, theatre and sport.

This promises to be a huge hit so early booking is advisable.
