A tango a day keeps the doctor away at Theatersaal, University Bremen

Dates: 6/27/2023

📍 Theatre:
Theatersaal, University Bremen

Bibliothekstrasse 1
Bremen, 28359

Today's concert has several peculiarities: to begin with, there are two singers (one of whom is celebrating her birthday today). Additionally, we will present a tango for string quartet, an instrumental formation primarily associated with classical music. And furthermore, there will be a premiere.

We will listen Tango music by Ástor Piazzolla, Agustín Bardi, Juan María Solare, Virgilio Expósito etc.

Bremen is one of the very few places in Europe where tango music is taught at the university level. The non-typical orchestra plays Argentine tangos, milongas, candombes, and other dances in the tradition of the music culture that developed in the cities of Argentina and Uruguay since the late 19th century. The ensemble's name refers to the "typical orchestras" that were common in Buenos Aires in the 1940s, characterized by four violins, viola, cello, double bass, four bandoneons, and piano. The lineup of our non-typical orchestra is flexible, and (almost) all instruments can be integrated. It was founded in 1999 by Andreas Lieberg and has been under the direction of Argentinean Juan María Solare since September 2002, who also writes the arrangements.
