BREAKDOWN

Benjamin (he/him), late 20’s. An enthusiastic, free spirit on a complacent path to marry his high-school sweetheart as he yearns to re-create the happy home he remembers from childhood before his mom died. His growing yearning to explore the world beyond his small town, expectations from friends and family, and an evolving relationship with his sexual identity all come to a head as he experiences a depressive episode. Baritenor or Tenor.

Kate (she/her), late 20’s. Ben’s fiancé, sensible and smart, says what she thinks and does what she wants. She helps her Aunt Alice run the town cafe. Her ambitious plans to expand the business into a community space and start a family with Ben are shaken up when Travis arrives. Alto Belt.

Roger (he/him), 50’s - 60’s. Ben’s dad, a realtor and conservative town councilman who covets a chance at state office. He rarely softens from the characteristics engrained during his military time, so he has trouble communicating that he does love and care for Ben. Baritone or Bass.

Alice (she/her), 40’s to 60’s. Kate’s aunt, a warm, caring woman who runs the cafe. All seek her advice because she’s smart, with strong principles. Sharp comedic timing. Mezzo.

Travis (he/him), 30’s. CAST. An appealing, charismatic artist who shows up in town for mysterious reasons. Thoughtful, poetic, but down to earth and with a droll sense of humor, he makes everyone think twice about their lives. Baritenor or Tenor.
