GREASE CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
Stylistically, we’re aiming for the grittier, original version of the show as opposed to the movie. Seeking strong actors to portray real working class teenagers.
DANNY ZUKO: (Range: tenor, D4–B5) The leader of the Burger Palace Boys; strong and confident, with an air of easy-going charm. Any ethnicity. 18-25 y/o.
SANDY DUMBROWSKI: (Range: Soprano, A3–F#5) New girl in town; Though outwardly sweet, wholesome, naive, and innocent. She eventually throws off the repression of her parent’s generation. Any ethnicity. 18-25 y/o.
BETTY RIZZO: (Range: Alto A3–C5) Leader of the Pink Ladies; tough, sarcastic, and outspoken but vulnerable. 18-25 y/o.
FRENCHY: (Range: Alto, A3–D5) A dreamer; good-natured and a loyal friend but not too smart, she cares deeply about her appearance, particularly her hair. She can't wait to finish high school so she can be a beautician. Any ethnicity. 18-25 y/o.
MARTY: (Range Alto, C4–C5) Considers herself the “beauty” of the Pink Ladies. She’s aged faster than her friends, but betrays her real age when she opens her mouth. Tries to act sophisticated. 18-25 y/o.
JAN: (Range: Alto, A3-C5) Funny, loud and pushy with the girls, but shy with boys. She struggles with her relationship to food. Any ethnicity. 18-25 y/o.
DOODY: (Range: Tenor, D4-A5) The youngest of the guys; small, boyish, and open, with a disarming smile and a hero-worshipping attitude towards the other guys. Must play the guitar. Any ethnicity. 18-25 y/o.
KENICKIE: (Range: Tenor, C4–F5) The second in command of the Burger Palace Boys; tough, tattooed, surly, and avoids any show of softness. He has an offbeat sense of humor. Any ethnicity. 18-25 y/o.
SONNY LATIERRI: (Range: baritone, G3–A5) A member of the Burger Palace Boys; funny Italian-American, he is a braggart and wheeler-dealer who thinks he's a real lady-killer. 18-25 y/o.
ROGER: (Range: Tenor, D4-A5) He will do anything for a laugh. Full of mischief, half-baked schemes and ideas. A clown who enjoys putting other people on. Any ethnicity. 18-25 y/o.
VINCE FONTAINE: (Range: Ensemble/Part Flexible) A typical 'teen audience' disc jockey; slick, egotistical and fast-talking. He is also a veteran 'Greaser.' Any Ethnicity 30-45 y/o.
CHA-CHA, aka CHARLENE DIGREGORIO: (Range: Alto, C4–C5) The best dancer at St. Bernadette's; a loud mouth, she wins the dancing competition with Danny. Any Ethnicity 18-25 y/o.
EUGENE FLORCZYK: (Range: Tenor, A3–E5) The class valedictorian; physically awkward, with weak eyes and a high-pitched voice. He's a typical 'apple-polisher' - both smug and pompous, but always gullible. 18-25 y/o.
JOHNNY CASINO: (Range: Tenor, G4-E5) All-American, rock-star “greaser” student at Rydell High, whose real name is Clarence. likes to think of himself as a real rock “n” roll idol. Any ethnicity. 18-25 y/o.
MISS LYNCH: (Range: Ensemble/Part Flexible) A no-nonsense, serious, loud English teacher. Strong comedy chops. Any ethnicity. 40+ y/o.
PATTY SIMCOX: (Range: Alto, D4-A4) A typical cheerleader; athletic, sure-of-herself, but can be given to bursts of disconcerting enthusiasm. She's a bit of a pain and unpopular with the Pink Ladies, and can twirl a baton. Any ethnicity. 18-25 y/o.
TEEN ANGEL: (Range: Tenor, E4–F5) Frenchy's suave and slick guardian angel, who encourages her to stay in school. Any ethnicity. Flexible age.
THE PINK LADIES: Ensemble (SATB) The club-jacketed, gum-chewing, hip-swinging girls' gang who hang around with the Burger Palace Boys. Varied ethnicities, 18-25 y/o.
THE BURGER PALACE BOYS: Ensemble (SATB) A super-cool, hard-looking group of high school wheelerdealers... or so they think. Varied ethnicities, 18-25 y/o.
Radio Voice: (Rage: Tenor, A3–C5) A Radio Voice. Any ethnicity. Flexible age.
