Equity actors for roles in the touring production of DOG MAN: THE MUSICAL (see breakdown).

PREPARATION

Please prepare to sing a 16-bar cut and do a 1-minute monologue. Both the song and the monologue should be light and humorous. Please bring sheet music in the correct key. Please bring your headshot and resume.

Tour begins with an extended sit-down in Los Angeles at the Kirk Douglas Theater in Culver City, CA 90232. Additional tour stops to be announced for those who plan to option to continue beyond the first stop. All tour stops will be a minimum of two weeks long.

EPA Procedures are in effect for this audition. An Equity Monitor will be provided.

BREAKDOWN

DOG MAN THE MUSICAL: A hilarious musical based on The New York Times #1 bestselling series from Dav Pilkey, the creator of Captain Underpants, and features the crime-biting canine who is part dog, part man, and ALL HERO!

SEEKING:

This is a MUSICAL. All characters MUST SING! All characters must be strong singers and versatile performers. Most characters will cover multiple tracks.

[FLIPPY AND OTHERS] - BIPOC+/Global majority, Female-identifying, 18 – 30ish: FLIPPY, a deliciously and comically evil fish who accidentally gains powers by eating brain dots, of course. Gargamel from the Smurfs meet the Wicked Witch of the West, but a fish. Will also double as a handful of other characters. Powerful pop belter (C5) with funk in her heart.

[LIL PETEY AND OTHERS] - Female-identifying, 18 – 30ish, any ethnicity: LIL PETEY, the clone of the evil cat PETEY who was created be an evil super villain, but turns out be a joyous and eternally optimistic toddler. LIL PETEY is excited by new friends, happy songs, and everything DOG MAN. Comic, versatile, will also double as a handful of other characters. Mezzo - strong mix belt a D5/Soprano extension Ab5. Performers of ethnic backgrounds are encouraged audition.

[PETEY AND OTHERS] - male-identifying, 18 – 30ish, any ethnicity: PETEY, the world’s most evil cat who clones himself to exact revenge on the doggy do-gooder. A deliciously criminal cat. Strong high belt and vocal versatility. Baritenor - full voice to Ab4. Performers of ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to audition.

[DOG MAN] - male-identifying, 18 – 30ish, any ethnicity: the nonverbal but incredibly physical and comedic DOG MAN, who with the head of a dog and the body of a cop, loves fight crime and chew on the furniture. Brings this part dog, part man, “all hero” to life. Clowning experience a plus, as is a deep understanding of the doggie brain. Baritone-belt to an E4. Performers of ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to audition.

[GEORGE AND CHIEF AND OTHERS] - BIPOC+/global majority, male-identifying, 18 - 30ish: the naturally cheery and energetic GEORGE. Now that he’s in 5th grade, it’s time to level up and write a musical with his best bud HAROLD, based on their favorite character, DOG MAN, the crime biting sensation who is part dog, part man, and ALL HERO! Will also double as a wide range of other characters. Baritone-belt to E4.

[HAROLD AND DR. DOOKIE AND OTHERS] - BIPOC+/global majority, male-identifying, 18 – 30ish: the naturally cheery and energetic HAROLD. Now that he’s in 5th grade, it’s time to level up and write a musical with his best bud GEORGE, based on their favorite character, DOG MAN, the crime biting sensation who is part dog, part man, and ALL HERO!! Will also double as a wide range of other characters. Tenor-strong belt to Bb4.

[SWING TRACK 1 - LIL PETEY, FLIPPY] - Versatile comic female of color to cover two tracks, 18+: LIL PETEY and FLIPPY. LIL PETEY is the epitome of joy and optimism. FLIPPY is a deliciously evil fish who accidentally gains powers by eating brain dots, of course. Will also cover a handful of other small characters in each track. Powerful pop mezzo-soprano belter/mixer to a C or D with funk (and joy) in their heart. Soprano extension Ab5.

[SWING TRACK 2 - GEORGE, HAROLD] - Versatile comic male of color to cover the comic book loving GEORGE and HAROLD, 18+: Will cover a handful of other small characters in each track including CHIEF and DR. DOOKIE. Strong high belt and vocal versatility. Tenor-strong belt to Bb4.

[SWING TRACK 3 - PETEY, DOG MAN] - Versatile comic male to cover the deliciously evil PETEY and the silent but incredibly physical and comedic DOG MAN, 18+: Will also cover a handful of other small characters in each track. Strong high belt and vocal versatility. Baritenor belt - full voice to Ab4.
