PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS:
In your recording, slate your name, height and tell us about the instruments you play and at what level.
Please prepare a song of your choosing in the style of the show. You may also use the accompaniment at https://wojcasting.com/buddy-holly-tuacahn-2022-epa-ecc-call-info/ .
Since most of the roles in this show require proficiency on guitar and various instruments, we prefer you accompany yourself when possible and/or give us a brief demonstration of your skill level on instruments. Note from the team on this request: “We encourage you to disclose and play as many instruments for which you are capable, so we have an overall understanding of how you might fit into the puzzle.”
SEEKING:
Some roles will be understudied.
Buddy Holly: (Male Identifying, 20-25) Singer-songwriter from Lubbock, Texas, Buddy is intelligent, charismatic, and at least 6’ tall. Plays guitar and sings. Has a feel for Rock ’n’ Roll.
Joe B. Mauldin: (Male Identifying, 20-25) Double Bass player from Lubbock, Texas. A serious and ‘square’ young man with musical ability. Sings. Plays Upright Bass and Bass Guitar.
Jerry Allison: (Male Identifying, 20-25) Drummer from Lubbock, Texas. A good-looking guy with irrepressible cheeky humor and musical ability. Sings and plays drums.
Maria Elena Holly: (Female Identifying, 20-25, Latiné) Classy and well-educated with musical ability. Sings. Instrument a plus, but not required.
J.P. Richardson—The Big Bopper: (Male Identifying, 25-30) A former DJ, he is a Texan with an irrepressible larger-than-life character and 6’ tall or over. Can command the stage on his own. Best known for his 1958 recording of “Chantilly Lace”. Sings and plays a musical instrument.
Ritchie Valens: (Male Identifying, 20-25, Latiné) He is a handsome boy with serious charisma, a dedicated eye for the ladies and the ability to hold the stage on his own. Best known for his 1958 hit “La Bamba.” Sings. Instrument a plus, but not required.
Hipockets Duncan: (Male Identifying, 30-45) An exuberant hometown radio DJ from Lubbock, Texas, with an air of authority and keen sense of humor. Sings and plays a musical instrument.
Norman Petty: (Male Identifying, 30-45) A record producer from Clovis, New Mexico with a business-like manner and a love of making records. Sings and plays a musical instrument. Playing horns is a plus.
Vi Petty: (Female Identifying, 30-40) Norman’s wife with a heart of gold and a good sense of humor. Sings and plays keyboards. THIS ROLE IS CAST.
Murray Deutch: (Male Identifying, 40s) a longtime music industry executive who helps propel Buddy Holly and the Crickets to stardom. VERY New York. Sings and plays a musical instrument.
