Everyone entering the audition venue (i.e., venue employees, Equity members, non-members, casting personnel, creatives, producers, musicians, COVID Safety Managers, etc.) will be required to undergo a symptom check and provide the following prior to entry into the venue:

Proof of full vaccination. “Fully vaccinated,” as defined by the CDC, is more than 14 calendar days following receipt of a final dose of an FDA or World Health Organization authorized or approved vaccine.

Two-ply cloth face masks, surgical masks, singer’s masks and respirators (N95, KN95 or KF94) will be allowed for face coverings. Singer’s masks can be found at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.

If the risk level for Atlanta is trending upwards and may rise to High (Red) we will contact members with appointments at least 24 hours before the first audition appointment time to let them know there is a chance that the auditions April 25, 2022 may need to be postponed or cancelled. All members with appointments will be notified if the auditions must be postponed or cancelled.

We encourage members to prepare for their audition at home, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

This play is written for a company of nine performers of varying generations and gender and ethnic identities. As there are no identity specifications, folks of all gender and racial identities are encouraged to audition.

DEATH: Any age and race. The oldest actor in the company.

SOMEBODIES: Any age and race. Played by five actors until they become something else.

EVERYBODY: Any age and race. Played by a Somebody as determined by chance.

FRIENDSHIP/ STRENGTH/KINSHIP/ BEAUTY/COUSIN/MIND/STUFF/SENSES: Any age and race. Played by remaining Somebodies as determined by chance.

GIRL/TIME: Female, any race, about 12-14 years old. A young child stolen from the audience—or at least it should initially seem so.

LOVE: Any age and race. Played by an audience member—or at least it should initially seem so.

First Rehearsal: 01/10/23 Closing: 03/05/23

CORDELL: Black, Male, 40s. The head chef of the clique. Recently emerged from the closet to cohabitate with Dwayne. In a not so former life, had a wife and 2 kids.

DWAYNE: Black, Male, 40s. Might not be the head chef, but is the head of the household. Holds Cordell and everyone down. Has been a mentor to his struggling nephew for years. Holds resentment towards Cordell for taking so long to legitimize their relationship.

ISOM: Black, Male, 30s. A new friend. Playlists include gospel and trap and that’s exactly how he talks. Met the duo at church.

BIG CHARLES: Black, Male, 40s. Old friend. Met the duo at the barbershop. Observant, laid-back. The rock. Probably better suited to become a doctor or a lawyer, but he was raised to love the game.

EVERETT EJ: Black, Male, 16-17. Dwayne’s nephew. In need of guidance and a new home.

TJ: Black, Male, 40s. Everett’s father. A long-time dealer who is “about that life.” Struggles with teaching his son how to be a man, but unsure if Cordell and Dwayne can be good father figures to his son.

KENDRA: Female. Black. Mid-40s. Jasmine’s theoretical physicist mother. Warm and loving, but also more ambitious and driven than Jasmine’s dad.

TODD/CORPORAL DELMAR/RICK: TODD. Male. White. 12. So so so naïve and optimistic. CORPORAL DELMAR: Male. White. 20s. Really southern dude. Has an accent. Laid back. RICK: Male. White. Late 30s. Just like a really cool guy.

GRACE/FUTURE JASMINE: Female. Black. 30s. The Artificial-Intelligence that runs Jasmine and Doug’s home. Calm. Unemotional. FUTURE JASMINE: Female. Bi-racial. 30s. An older, wiser Jasmine. Has a nose piercing.
