Four Corridor Theatres Reunite For A Second Virtual Cabaret Performance

This weekend, over 50 artists from four local theatre companies will come together for a second, brand-new 'Virtual Cabaret' fundraising performance. Songs to Make You Smile: A Virtual Encore will premiere Saturday, May 23rd at 7:30 PM on YouTube and will feature performances by actors and singers from Coralville Center for the Performing Arts, Old Creamery Theatre, Riverside Theatre and Theatre Cedar Rapids, as well as students from across southeastern Iowa who were a part of an online submission contest.

The Des Moines Playhouse is keeping theatre LIVE in Des Moines with a unique new initiative: Live Theatre Drive-in. Starting June 12 and continuing nearly every weekend through Aug. 15, The Playhouse will present three, two-person cast plays in its parking lot, with audiences remaining safely in their cars listening via a radio frequency.

As we head out of the winter season and into spring, there is one thing we know is coming, rain. This last weekend Des Moines Playhouse opened their production of 'Singin' In The Rain.' As their production opened this weekend, there was a giant storm cloud in the distance called COVID-19 that caused the remaining performances of this production to be postponed. As I write this review, I hope it becomes a preview of an upcoming production.

Loss. It's not easy for anyone to discuss. Everyone deals with loss in different ways. Carousel Theatre of Indianola is exploring the process of dealing with losing a loved one in their current production of Sarah Ruhl's 'Eurydice,' which opens on March 6. While the subject matter may be challenging to discuss, this production delicately brings this beautiful show to its audience.

The Des Moines Community Playhouse's latest Teen Theatre Workshop, Audition Techniques with Erin Horst, will be held  Saturday, Mar. 28, 2020, 1:00-4:00 PM. The workshop is open to all interested teens in grades 7-12. Registration is $9 per person. Registrations may be made online at dmplayhouse.com.
