Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra “Fate and Future”

Directed by Jacinda M. Bouton

Friday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m.

A compelling program exploring destiny and transformation.

The Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra opens its 2026-27 with “Fate and Future” on Friday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lone Tree Arts Center, 10075 Commons St., Lone Tree, CO 80124. Tickets are $22 - $32 / $10 for children 12 and under. Tickets at www.lonetreesymphony.org or by calling 720-509-1000

The evening begins with Giuseppe Verdi’s dramatic overture to La Forza del Destino—The Force of Destiny. From its ominous opening chords to its sweeping melodies and theatrical intensity, the overture immediately introduces the concert’s theme and the idea of forces that can alter the course of a life.

The program then turns toward the future with Sercy, a new work by American composer Hilary Purrington, winner of the Lone Tree Symphony’s inaugural Composition Competition. Selected from 118 submissions from composers across the country, Purrington’s work was chosen following a competitive adjudication and reading process. Its performance marks the beginning of a new initiative created to support contemporary orchestral music and provide audiences the opportunity to hear outstanding works by today’s composers.

The first half continues with Hugo Alfvén’s colorful Swedish Rhapsody No. 1, also known as Midsommarvaka. Inspired by Swedish folk music and midsummer celebrations, the rhapsody offers a spirited contrast to Verdi’s drama and Purrington’s contemporary voice. The evening concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5. Its famous four-note opening has become virtually synonymous with the idea of fate itself.

This concert brings together music spanning more than two centuries; Fate and Future looks backward and forward at once—from Verdi and Beethoven to a new generation of orchestral composers.

Jacinda M. Bouton has been the Principal Conductor and Music Director of the Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra since its premier in 2000. She is also the Music Director of the Denver Concert Band, has served as guest conductor of the Denver Municipal Band, and is an active conductor, clinician and adjudicator throughout the Rocky Mountain Region. Jacinda feels fortunate to have conducted these ensembles in over thirty guest artist concerts with members of the Colorado Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and many other nationally and internationally renowned soloists.
