Westside School of Ballet in Santa Monica was founded in 1967 by New York City Ballet's Yvonne Mounsey with co-founder Rosemary Valaire, a Royal Ballet soloist, and describes itself as Los Angeles' oldest public ballet school. Martine Harley is artistic director. The school teaches a graded classical syllabus in the Balanchine tradition, running from Parent & Me for children under 3 and Pre-Primary at age 3 through Primary Ballet (ages 4-6) and Ballet levels I to VII, with additional pas de deux, boys-only ballet, teen ballet, jazz and adult classes.
