BWW Review: SPAMALOT at Casa Manana
by Kyle Christopher West - June 06, 2016
When SPAMALOT opened on Broadway in 2005, I wasn't much of a Monty Python fan, but the buzz around town convinced me to go see the show before it eventually won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical. And even though a few jokes (and a cow) seemed to fly right over my head, when the British shtick met the high kicks and glitz, I caught myself laughing until I cried. The star-studded cast at Casa Manana, appearing only though June 12th, might miss a beat here or there throughout the evening, but they are so energetic and enthusiastic that the opening night audience couldn't help but love them.

It's been four years since he has performed in The Big D, but he's eager to briefly return to our thriving arts district. Check out our conversation below:

BWW Review: BLACKBERRY WINTER at the Kitchen Dog Theater
by Aaron Zilbermann - May 29, 2016
Our parents are the people who raised us. They taught us things, kept an eye on us, bathed us, changed our diapers, and most significantly, they provided us with an over abundance of memories that ultimately helped shape who we are as we age and grow. But, now bare with me for a moment, what if an underground mole could dig its way into your mind and rob you of those treasured memories? This is the crux of the creation myth for Alzheimer's disease developed by Vivienne Avery, the primary character in Steve Yockey's new play, Blackberry Winter, presented by the Kitchen Dog Theatre (KDT) as the first play in their eighteenth annual New Works Festival, in residence at the Undermain Theatre. A one-woman show is a rather difficult undertaking and KDT Artistic Company Member, Karen Parrish, undertook this project with an intensity that left the audience filled with emotion, laughter and tears, sometimes simultaneously.
BWW Review: CABARET at Winspear Opera House
by Kyle Christopher West - May 29, 2016
I can't be the only theatregoer who found the tour of CABARET chilling. During an election year where fear mongering and racial intolerance are sitting center ring, the story of pre-Holocaust Germany seems especially relevant and cautionary. But that doesn't mean the musical, which just arrived at the Winspear Opear House, isn't equally thrilling and heartfelt.

BWW Review: RAGTIME at Dallas Summer Musicals
by Kyle Christopher West - May 26, 2016
Walking into the Music Hall at Fair Park Tuesday night, I was extremely eager to enjoy Ahrens and Flaherty's lavish, Tony Award-winning score in the tour of RAGTIME. Together with Terrence McNally's dynamic script, RAGTIME is celebrated as perhaps one of the greatest book musicals of the past two decades. Unfortunately, in spite of all of its inherent strengths, technical troubles plagued the tour's opening night performance. I left the theatre completely disappointed.

BWW Blog: Sam Weber - Just Another Day, Only a Day
by Guest Blogger: Sam Weber - May 23, 2016
If you're reading this, chances are I do not need to describe what many refer to as 'the magic' of theatre. You're probably living it right now. Whether this idea refers to the relationships within a cast, the effect of the show on an audience, or simply the energy that you can only feel onstage, there is certainly something special about being a part of theatre. Now take all of those warm fuzzies, and put them into one tiny, little 24-Hour long box. You shouldn't be able to, right? But it's completely possible, and it's something students from all across my university have been doing for two years now.
