Photo Flash: Meet the Cast of THE NOVELIST at Theatre Three

By:

Theatre Three presents the intelligent and funny ensemble drama THE NOVELIST by Theresa Rebeck, running August 4 - 28, 2016. BroadwayWorld has a sneak peek at the cast in character below!

Paul, a Nobel-winning novelist suffering from writer's block, his elegant but feisty wife, two sons (an actor and an antique dealer) and the actor's girlfriend are together for the first time in ages. Enter Paul's new assistant, a talented and passionate writing student. Bitter, funny chaos ensues in The Novelist, an ensemble dramedy about a cruelly destructive and fiercely protective family of artists.

Director and longtime Theatre Three collaborator Gregory Lush says, "I am a huge fan of Theresa Rebecks's work. I was drawn to The Novelist in particular because it is a wonderfully-crafted ensemble piece where every character has a beautiful aria that adds something essential to the overall tapestry. To that end, I am extremely fortunate to have an amazing group of actors to tell this story, which examines the nature of art and creation, family/relationship dynamics, and what makes theater itself an 'art form that seeks transcendence.'" This will be Mr. Lush's Theatre Three directorial debut.

The cast of The Novelist features Michael Muller (Paul), Cindee Mayfield (Margaret), Jeffrey Schmidt (Ethan), Ashley Wood(Frank), Jennifer Kuenzer (Laurie) and Ashlee Elizabeth Bashore (Sophie).

The Novelist is a re-working of Theresa Rebeck's earlier play The Butterfly Collection. Rebeck is a Peabody award-winning writer known for her most recent Broadway hit, Seminar (produced at Theatre Three, 2013-14 season), and for creating the NBC television drama, Smash. She has also written for NYPD Blue, Law & Order Criminal Intent and LA Law.
