Pacific Symphony Youth Ensembles Presents Season-Ending Concert Series, 5/15-5/16

Pacific Symphony Youth Ensembles-one of the premier education programs for young musicians ages 11-21 in Southern California-perform concerts in several locations each season, but only once in the same location on the same weekend! A festival of sorts, this unique opportunity to hear Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra (PSYO), Pacific Symphony Santiago Strings (PSSS) and Pacific Symphony Youth Wind Ensembles (PSYWE), is also the perfect sampling of these impressive musicians of tomorrow. This year, PYSWE kicks off the culminating weekend of music with 'Thundering Winds,' on Saturday, May 15, at 2 p.m., while PSSS and PSYO join forces for 'Celebration in Sound,' on Sunday, May 16, with PSSS at 2:30 p.m. and PSYO at 4 p.m.-all in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.

Upon her return to Southern California from a difficult tour of duty in Iraq, wounded Marine Sergeant Jenny Sutter finds herself lost in the California desert, without the body and mind she once knew. The eccentric inhabitants of a makeshift community give her the homecoming she needs before returning to her previous life. An edgy and poignant drama, WELCOME HOME, JENNY SUTTER brings fascinating insight to a timely theme.

Theatre Out, Orange County's gay and lesbian theatre, presents the World Premiere of Darcy Hogan's adaptation of Christopher Marlowe's EDWARD II. Written in c.1592, Edward II, chronicles Edward's rise as the King of England and ultimately his downfall and overthrow as he begins to favor his lover, Gaveston, to the exclusion of his wife, Isabella. Hogan's new adaptation of the work is an intimate portrayal of the characters that focuses the play on the love triangle of Edward, Gaveston and Isabella as Edward loses control of his kingdom. Performance Dates: May 14 - June 5, 2010.

Orange County's newest Black Box Theatre, Mysterium presents NUNSENSE with performances running from May 13-June 19. The original five-woman production of NUNSENSE won four Outer Critics Circle Awards, including best off-Broadway musical, best book and best music. A 1985 London cast recording was made, as well as a 1986 recording with the off-Broadway cast. The show opened on London's West End at the Fortune Theatre in March 1987.

Theatre Out, Orange County's Gay and Lesbian Theatre and O.C. sketch comedy troupe Late Night Leftovers are teaming up to raise money for the 2010 AIDS Walk/Orange County with a cabaret of great music and sketch comedy. 100% of the proceeds directly benefit and support those living with HIV/AIDS in Orange County. The 'One Night Only' benefit will take place on Saturday, May 8 with two performances at 6:30 pm and 9:00 pm.

Davis Gaines, known by most Southern California theatergoers for his portrayal of the titular character in Andrew Lloyd Webber's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, will be joining the previously announced Steven Glaudini (John Adams) and Tami Tappan Damiano (Abigail Adams) as Richard Henry Lee, of Virginia in 1776.

Like no other violinist of recent times, Bell has captured the imaginations of both critics and audiences; Interview magazine once said his playing 'does nothing less than tell human beings why they bother to live.' The evening's concert was specially programmed by St.Clair to include music that holds special meaning for him, with guest artists he considers close friends, including pianist Benjamin Pasternack, baritone Christòpheren Nomura, and Pacific Chorale, led by John Alexander.
