Beck Center for the Arts' 80th theater season opens on Friday, September 20 with the award-winning musical She Loves Me. Since its humble beginning in 1933 as Lakewood Little Theater, the organization has grown to be one of the largest arts organizations in Northeast Ohio, serving nearly 60,000 constituents annually with dynamic theater, arts education, exhibits and outreach programming.
Cleveland Play House Announces Free WOODY SEZ 'Hootenannies'

House invites all local musicians and music lovers alike to join in their FREE jam sessions, otherwise known as 'hootenannies,' following the Sept. 22nd, Sept. 29th and Oct. 6th Sunday matinee performances of Woody Sez: The Life & Music of Woody Guthrie. This incredible production about the celebrated musician and iconic leader of the American Folk Movement, Woody Guthrie, will take Cleveland Play House's stage from Sept. 13 - Oct. 6 in the Allen Theatre at PlayhouseSquare. The production is in the folk tradition: unamplified, authentic and incorporating over twenty acoustic instruments.

Great Lakes Theater (GLT) will commence its 2013-14 season at the Hanna Theatre, PlayhouseSquare, with a Fall Repertory that features William Shakespeare's royal epic, Richard III and Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award-winning musical thriller, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The productions will be performed in rotating repertory September 27 - November 3, 2013. Joseph Hanreddy will direct Richard III.Victoria Bussert will direct Sweeney Todd. (Sweeney Todd's music and lyrics were written by Stephen Sondheim based on a book by Hugh Wheeler and an adaptation by Christopher Bond.Sweeney Todd was originally directed on Broadway by Harold Prince with orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick. It was originally produced on Broadway by Richard Barr, Charles Woodward, Robert Fryer, Mary Lea Johnson, Martin Richards in association with Dean and Judy Manos.)

Great Lakes Theater Appoints New Directors of Education

Great Lakes Theater (GLT), Cleveland's professional classic theater, announced the joint appointments of longtime, GLT education department staff members Kelly Schaffer Florian and Lisa Ortenzi as the company's new Directors of Education. Florian will serve as GLT's Director of Educational Services and Ortenzi will act as Director of Educational Programming.

Cleveland Play House (CPH) raised and donated over $8,000 from its recent production of "8," Dustin Lance Black's play about the California Proposition 8 trial. The donation continues CPH's mission to serve the community, with the $8,231 shared equally between the American Foundation for Equal Rights and the Cleveland chapter of Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG).

The CAMEO 2013 season marks the 10-year anniversary of summer musicals in the Medina Performing Arts Center. In its first production in 2003, My Fair Lady, Medina native Rachel Spetrino was just 14 years old and was cast as a flower girl. This year Ms. Spetrino returns to direct her second CAMEO production, Songs for a New World, which opens August 9. Musical direction will be by another Medina high school alum, Tom Bonezzi.

Disney's THE LION KING continues to reign across North America with a sold-out engagement in Cleveland, which concluded on Sunday, August 4 at the State Theatre. The triumphant four-week return grossed over $6.3 million at the box office and entertained more than 93,000 patrons during 32 performances. This was THE LION KING's third engagement in Cleveland, following an eight-week sold-out premiere in 2003, and a successful six-week run in 2007 at the State Theatre.
