We Had a World is the Chicago premiere of Joshua Harmon's newest play, directed by Theater Wit Artistic Director Jeremy Wechsler. When a dying woman asks her grandson to write a play about their family — with the caveat that he make it "as bitter and vitriolic as possible" — what unfolds is a recreation of thirty years of family fights, monstrous behavior, enormous cruelty, and enduring love. Rooted in a multigenerational Jewish family, the play premiered off Broadway in May 2025 at Manhattan Theatre Club and represents the latest collaboration between Harmon and Wechsler, who previously worked together on Bad Jews, Admissions, and Prayer for the French Republic.
