Writers Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma, continues its 2018/19 season with A Number, written by Caryl Churchill and directed by Robin Witt. A Number runs March 20 - June 9, 2019 in The Gillian Theatre at 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe. The Press Opening is Wednesday, March 27 at 7:30 p.m.

Powerful, unpredictable and devastating, Caryl Churchill's suspenseful A Number sees a father meeting his "estranged" son over several visits. As they reconnect, multiplying lies are uncovered, revealing a surprising truth about their shared past that leads directly to the provocative questions: how much do we pass on to our children and is it really possible to atone for our mistakes?

Set in a strikingly familiar future, this ingenious and illuminating twist on a family drama examines the idea of individuality and the very nature of identity. Staged in WT's Gillian Theatre by Chicago director Robin Witt, the WT production will reveal the emotional core of this gripping play, drawing audiences into its intriguing dystopia as it asks fascinating questions about the morality of actions that might just be taking place tomorrow...

Associate Artistic Director Geoff Button comments, "Caryl Churchill is one of our greatest living playwrights and Writers Theatre is long overdue to bring one of her masterful works to our stage. Fiercely intelligent and deeply prescient, A Number is in many ways her most accessible play to date. Equal parts science fiction and family drama, this play will resonate for anyone who's ever been a parent, or for anyone who's had one!"

The cast of A Number includes: William Brown (Salter) and Nate Burger (Bernard).

The creative team includes: Courtney O'Neill (scenic), Mieka van der Ploeg (costumes), Brandon Wardell (lighting), Thomas Dixon (sound), and Bobby Kennedy (dramaturg). The production stage manager is David Castellanos.

Tickets are priced $35 - $80. Subscriptions and individual tickets may be purchased online at www.writerstheatre.org, by phone at 847-242-6000 or in person at the box office at 325 Tudor Court in Glencoe.
