Charlotte Shakespeare Fest Seeks a Part-time Education Director

The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival is seeking a part-time Education Director for its 2011 summer season. This is a paid position. The responsibilities and job requirements are outlined below. Job Title: Education Director

Responsibilities:
Develop a plan to reach 400 students (young people and adults) with Shakespeare-oriented education and training workshops during the period of April - August 2011. Timing and content of workshops is flexible. Professional education workshops (for local actors) conducted by visiting guest artists (planned in conjunction with Artistic Director) count towards the attendance goal.
In conjunction with the Artistic Director, secure locations and assist in the marketing of workshops
Lead a minimum of 7 one-hour Shakespeare-themed workshops for young people. Three during the run of Tartuffe (one each week), two during the run of King Lear (one each week), and at least two others at times and locations TBD.
Supervise festival interns (3-6 high school and/or college age theatre students) during the run of both shows. Interns will serve as actors in supporting roles and also as backstage crew. Ensure interns understand expectations of their role(s), attend rehearsals and performances on time, and conduct themselves in a professional manner. Additional work with the interns (such as teaching additional classes or directing them in a show) is encouraged and supported, but optional.
Track attendance and demographics of all workshop attendees

Requirements:
Must have prior theatre teaching experience
Experience with Shakespeare and other classical theatre (as an actor, director or teacher) is preferred; enthusiasm for Shakespeare is required
Must be available to lead workshops and coach interns during the run of both summer shows (dates below)
Ability to work independently and with little supervision

Dates:
Dates for the summer season are still being finalized, but are expected to be as follows:
Tartuffe performs June 2-19, with rehearsals beginning around May 8
King Lear performs August 3-14, with rehearsals beginning around June 27
There are no rehearsals or other festival activities during the week of June 20-26
If needed, some workshops may be scheduled prior to the beginning of Tartuffe rehearsals.
