THE ORPHAN SEA Tapped as Skidmore Theater's Fall 2016 Black Box Show

The Skidmore College Department of Theater has announced the premiere of a multilingual version of The Orphan Sea by Caridad Svich, 2012 Lifetime Achievement OBIE award winner. Director Eunice Ferreira, Skidmore theater professor, innovatively infuses the play with multiple languages, song, poetry, film and dance to invite audiences on a metatheatrical journey.

A failed writer (Gregory Mangieri) and a struggling actress (Emily Tarpey) meet while looking at the famous holiday windows at Bloomingdale's, Bergdorf's, Lord & Taylor's and Macy's. The windows they've been viewing come alive and we get to see what they saw and more - amusingly irreverent views at what the characters in the windows think and do about their lives in the stories they find themselves in.

Bridge Street Theatre to Celebrate Mainstage Opening with Ribbon Cutting 11/29

Join the Greene County Chamber of Commerce in celebrating a milestone in the history of Catskill's Bridge Street Theatre! A ribbon cutting for the theatre's new Mainstage, completed with the help of private donors as well as a generous grant from New York State's Department of Homes and Community Renewal, will be held at BST, located at 44 West Bridge Street, on Tuesday November 29 from 5:00-7:00pm. The event is free and open to the public and will include libations, appetizers (provided by Gracie's Luncheonette in Leeds}, live entertainment from performers Tom Judson and Steven Patterson, and guest appearances by local and regional celebrities and dignitaries. Attendees will also be among the first to learn the names of some of the plays the theatre is considering for production in its 2017 season.

Nominations were completely reader-submitted and after the nomination period ended October 31, BroadwayWorld's local editors proofed the list for eligibility and errors. Voting will run through December 31. Winners will be announced in early January!

The Solace Ensemble, comprised of Bestmann and fellow HBMS faculty members April Johnson, violin; Peter Seidenberg, cello; and Tomoko Uchino, piano, will perform Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Quartet in E flat Major, Op. 16 and Antonin Dvo?ak's expressive Piano Quartet No. 1 in D Major, Op. 23.
