Returning to 54 Below for a 6th time by popular demand! Friends since the age of 10, Rachel Handman (violin) and Keve Wilson (oboe) dazzle audiences with their combined electric dynamic that instantly ignites the room. Playing unique arrangements of familiar tunes, they grew up dreaming of performing on Broadway and spent every Saturday studying at Manhattan School of Music as teenagers, where they would skip music theory to practice show tunes and Irish jigs and reels instead.
Having realized that Broadway dream, they recently wrapped up a seven-month run performing together in the orchestra for the 2018 Broadway revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel. Other Broadway shows they have played include Company, West Side Story, Something Rotten!, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, and Dr. Zhivago, among others.
From Hyde Park, New York, Rachel and Keve have developed a concert showcasing their interest in music from around the world. They continue to transcend genres with unique and creative repertoire, and weave personal tales from their life-long friendship throughout the evening.
They are joined by their band, Hidayat Honari-guitar, Marc Schmied-bass, and Damien Bassman-drums.
Please note that all artists and acts are subject to change at any time.
Next month, 54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club & Private Event Destination, presents some of the brightest stars from Broadway, cabaret, jazz, and beyond. A recipient of the 2022 Tony Awards Honor for Excellence in the Theatre, 54 Below is a non-profit organization with a mission to preserve and expand the art of the cabaret, honor the music of Broadway, and provide an unparalleled experience to diverse communities.
It’s a very rare thing for 54 Below to present an evening of strictly instrumental music. But violinist Rachel Handman and oboist Keve Wilson are not ordinary musicians. They have been friends since childhood, growing up in the same neighborhood upstate. Handman’s mother was Keve Wilson’s piano teacher. They’ve been together ever since, occasionally even sharing a Broadway pit. At the time of the shutdown, Handman was playing West Side Story and Wilson was playing Company. This is the fourth time they’ve graced the stage of 54 Below. However, this time their band has expanded. Together with guitarist Hidayat Honari, bassist Marc Schmied, and drummer Damien Bassman, Handman and Wilson delighted a rapt audience.
Next month, FEINSTEIN’S/54 BELOW, Broadway’s Supper Club & Private Event Destination, will present some of the brightest stars from Broadway, cabaret, jazz, and beyond.
