LAST JEDI Stirs Social Media Frenzy - Nears One Million Mentions in a Week

As Star Wars fans gear up for the premiere of the Last Jedi, they are taking to social media to feed their excitement. Overall, there have been nearly one million mentions of the Last Jedi over the last week and more than 3.6 million over the last month, according to international social media analytics firm Talkwalker.

Over the past 30 days, the peak came on November 17, with Star Wars' own channels and actors driving the buzz with more than 175,000 mentions in social media, Talkwalker reported. This Instagram post revealed Galaxy Edge's planet on Walt Disney World's StarTours ride and garnered more than 150,000 likes:

December 2 was another peak with more than 158,000 social posts. This Instagram video on Dec. 2 marked two weeks until premiere date with more than 380,000 views.

The third recent peak came yesterday (Dec. 6) as the premiere date continues to draw close with nearly 160,000 social posts, thanks in part to a Red Carpet event in Tokyo, according to Talkwalker.

This Tweet from Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, who is apparently a Star Wars fanboy, attracted more than 10,000 reactions and captured many fans' feelings about the movie.

The Top Emojis and Top 10 hashtags over the last week: (see below)

Over the past week, Rey is number one character hashtag (#ReyDay with 20,698 mentions, #Rey with 6,923) followed by Darth Vader (with 13,040 mentions). The actress who plays Rey, Daisy Ridley is the third most popular hashtag (#DaisyRidley with 12,535 mentions). Main villain Kylo Ren has 6,812 mentions (#kyloren) while Luke Skywalker also garnered mentions (6,783 for #lukeskywalker) in the past week, Talkwalker reported.

Top tweets are pretty focused on Mark Hamill who is quite active on Twitter!
