The New School's Mannes Opera to Stage IN THE GREEN by BWW News Desk
- April 30, 2022 The College of Performing Arts at The New School is proud to present a Mannes Opera production of Grace McLean's In the Green from Tuesday, May 10 through Saturday, May 14 at the Bank Street Theater. Premiered at Lincoln Center Theater in 2019, and praised as “Ingenious & Wildly Inventive” by The New York Times, Mannes Opera has expanded on McClean’s original vision by weaving in additional choral pieces by Hildegard von Bingen, performed by a full chorus.

- April 28, 2022 The Lake / nx̌aʔx̌aʔitkʷ, a unique opera documentary about the groundbreaking cross-cultural collaboration between Vancouver’s Astrolabe Musik Theatre, Turning Point Ensemble and Westbank First Nation, has its BC premiere on May 6, 2022, at 7:45 p.m. at the VIFF Centre VanCity Theatre, with a second screening May 12 at 7:45 p.m. at SFU’s Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema, as part of the DOXA Documentary Film Festival. The Lake / nx̌aʔx̌aʔitkʷ is also available for viewing online.
Metropolitan Opera Announces Cast Change for TOSCA by BWW News Desk
- April 28, 2022 Liudmyla Monastyrska will sing the title role of Puccini's Tosca during the 2022–23 season, replacing Hibla Gerzmava in four performances March and April 2023. As previously announced, Angela Gheorghiu will sing the April 8 and 12, 2023, performances.
Disability-Led Opera Company Raises Awareness For Chronic Illnesses Linked To COVID-19 by BWW News Desk
- April 28, 2022 This May, Canada's first fully disability-run opera company is rallying the community in support of those with chronic illnesses. From May 1-June 1, Vancouver's Opera Mariposa is presenting their tenth annual Benefit + Awareness campaign, aiding the ME | FM Society of BC and people with chronic neuro-immune diseases. The event honours the International Awareness Month for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) and Fibromyalgia (FM), and includes videos, music, art, shopping and over $3,500 in prizes.

And while the new LUCIA isn’t something that will send every Met attendee into quivers of excitement--I don’t think I’ve ever heard so many pros and cons discussed at an intermission before--it also won’t send them to sleep either.
