Video: First Look at LA TRAVIATA at Opera San José
Verdi's beloved tragic love story runs April 19 through May 3, 2026 at the California Theatre in San Jose.
Opera San José has released first look footage of LA TRAVIATA, Verdi's beloved tragic love story now playing through May 3, 2026 at the California Theatre in downtown San Jose.
Directed by inaugural Director-in-Residence Tara Branham and conducted by former Conductor-in-Residence Johannes Löhner in his principal conducting debut for Opera San José, the glittering production is set during the construction of the Eiffel Tower and brings audiences into the heart of French society for one of opera's greatest love stories. The scandalous affair between courtesan Violetta Valery and young gentleman Alfredo Germont threatens to tear the fabric of the Parisian social order apart.
Soprano Mikayla Sager, most recently seen as Mimì in LA BOHÈME, returns to Opera San José as Violetta, with former Artist-in-Residence WooYoung Yoon as Alfredo and Kidon Choi as Germont. The cast also includes Joanne Evans as Flora, Nicole Koh as Annina, Benjamin Ruiz as Gastone, Michael Jesse Kuo as Marchese d'Obigny, Robert Balonek as Baron Douphol, and Joseph Calzada as Dr. Grenville.
LA TRAVIATA runs approximately 3 hours including a 20-minute intermission, a brief 5-minute pause in Act II, and a 15-minute intermission. Pre-show discussions led by Conductor-in-Residence Noah Lindquist take place at 1 p.m. for matinees and 6:30 p.m. for evening performances. For tickets and information, visit Opera San José online. The California Theatre is located at 345 S 1st Street, San Jose, CA.
