Mozart's DON GIOVANNI to be Presented at Apollo Theater, Ermoupolis

Portland Opera To Celebrate George Manahan In George & Friends Concert

In a special one-night-only event, Portland Opera will celebrate Maestro George Manahan's tenure as Portland Opera's Music Director with a concert in his honor. The Portland Opera Chorus and Orchestra will be featured, as well as guest artists and friends performing arias and ensemble pieces in a night of celebration. The George & Friends Concert will take place on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 7:30PM at the Keller Auditorium. Celebrating its 10th anniversary season, On Site Opera gave its audiences a present: The lively, fun-filled GIANNI SCHICCHI--the only comedy in Puccini’s trifecta, IL TRITTICO, which had its world premiere at the Met in 1918 and is surely its most popular of the triptych of one-acts. Of course, the composer’s written about greed, love and violence before, but never in a way to lift the spirits and tickle one’s fancy, using Giovacchino Forzano’s libretto.

Featuring a cast headed by internationally renowned István Kovácsházi, Andrea Szántó, Károly Szemerédy and András Palerdi, the new production of Wagner's final opera is staged by András Almási-Tóth and conducted by Balázs Kocsár at the refurbished Opera House. The OPRL is set to stage CÉSAR FRANCK'S OPERA HULDA. Given in concert version in its entirety, this extremely rare work is typical of “French grand opera”. Its medieval Scandinavian plot, full of bloody twists and turns, will be served by an ideal cast under the direction of Gergely Madaras. at the Salle Philharmonique de Liège on May 15, before concerts in Namur and Paris and a recording.
Autographed Score of Donizetti's LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR Comes to the MET for New Production

Lucia di Lammermoor is undoubtedly, together with L’elisir d’amore, the most famous opera by Gaetano Donizetti and the most performed throughout the world. Thanks to a 1985 donation by the Perolari family, the city of Bergamo was able to acquire the autograph score of this opera, which was first performed at the San Carlo Theatre in Naples in 1835. The score is preserved in the Mai Library. In a few weeks this precious manuscript will travel across the ocean for the first time to be exhibited at the Italian Cultural Institute in New York directed by Fabio Finotti on the occasion of the new, highly anticipated production of Lucia di Lammermoor at the Metropolitan Opera. The production will be conducted by Riccardo Frizza, who is also the music director of the Donizetti Opera Festival in Bergamo .

Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato brings her latest innovative project to Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage on Saturday, April 23 at 8:00 p.m. Titled EDEN, the program explores our individual connection to nature and its impact on our world and features Ms. DiDonato’s frequent collaborators Maxim Emelyanychev leading Italian chamber orchestra Il Pomo d’Oro. Fusing music, movement, and theater, the program includes works spanning from the 17th to the 21st century by Handel, Gluck, Wagner, Mahler, Ives, and Copland, as well as the New York premiere of Academy Award-winning composer Rachel Portman’s The First Morning of the World, commissioned specifically for this project.

American Lyric Theater (ALT) announced today InsightALT: Opera in Eden, a performance featuring three new one-act operas on themes of temptation developed by Resident Artists in the company’s nationally acclaimed Composer Librettist Development Program. ALT’s current Resident Artists (Composers Jasmine Barnes, Johanny Navarro, and Alex Weiser; and Librettists Joshua Banbury, Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton, and Marcus Yi) were selected from over 200 applicants to join the CLDP this season. Opera in Eden, which is the culminating event of the first year of these artists’ residency, will take place at National Sawdust in Brooklyn on Tuesday, May 17th, 2022 at 7:00pm.

Though it ran on Broadway in 1950, it brings to mind current images that are seen on the news every night. Parallels to refugees and the bureaucratic system of being a victim of foreign war are seen.
