?Anthony Barrese, award-winning conductor and composer, arrived in Miami yesterday to begin conducting rehearsals for Florida Grand Opera's (FGO) upcoming production of Georges Bizet's The Pearl Fishers (Les pecheurs de perles). Barrese makes his company debut conducting this French masterpiece not even two weeks after the close of FGO's well-received production of Mozart's comic opera Cosi fan tutte. The Pearl Fishers will open today, February 28, at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.

On March 13 and 14 at 7:30pm, Utopia Opera presents an imaginative double bill: L'enfant et les sortilèges by Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) and The Zoo by Arthur Sullivan (1842-1900) in a fully-staged production performed with an 18-piece orchestra at the Ida K. Lang Recital Hall at Hunter College (695 Park Avenue). Utopia founder and artistic director, William Remmers, conducts L'enfant and directs both operas, while Jeremy Weissmann conducts The Zoo; both operas have costume styling by Eric Lamp.

Corinthia Hotel London has announced that its fourth annual Artist in Residence programme is opera. Also announced today is the prestigious panel of judges who will choose a winning idea from a range of artist applications. The selected artist will be awarded a month residency at the hotel, over which time they will develop and realise their vision. The finished project will launch in September. A selection of artists have been approached to submit ideas for the project, with one final 'wild card' position still remaining. Corinthia Hotel London's General Manager Renaud Gregoire will select one final applicant from open submissions to join the other artists.
